OJSC “Lvivkartonoplast” and in he past it was Lviv paperboard mill, created in 1946 on the basis of the manufacturing areas of small mechanical plant in Kovelska Str. 109. At that time there were assembled two paperboard processing machines, brought from postwar Germany. For its 60-years history the company got through takeoffs and downfalls. During the tens years of planned social economy company was developing intensively, there were building new workshops, approach lines. In 1966 there was built the workshop in manufacturing of decorative plastic, industrial manufacturing of which once was the only in Ukraine. In the middle of 70-s there were introduced into exploitation of the building of wastepaper storehouse, marking-preparing section and sewage treatment facilities, which organically were being united into whole closed complex in production of paperboard and plastic. Two paperboard production machines together produced about 3000 tons of paperboard per month, in addition there were processed about 4000 tons of wastepaper. Company remained at this period high level of profitability.
Period from 1993 to 2000 – is the period of the company’s downfall. This is connected with the range of factors of the objective character: sufficient grew prices for energy sources at the outdated equipment, hyperinflationary processes in the country, almost complete termination of the payments in monetary means and general transition to the barter schemes. It should be considered that the company’s managing personnel in new circumstances of post-socialist but not yet marketing economy, could not cope with its obligations in new circumstances. State, as the owner of the company made attempts to influence these processes by the way of corporatization and further privatization, i.e. the search for the most effective owner.
New history of the company began from the second quarter of 2000, when, actually, there was finished the process of privatization of OJSC “Lvivkartonoplast”. At the direct financial assistance of the main stockholder during 2000–2002 there were liquidated sufficient debts before budgets, pension fund, funds of social insurance, there was repaid past-due creditor debt to the utility companies and to the raw materials suppliers. There was renewed the production of paperboard, there were initiated and conducted general meetings of shareholders, which approved new edition of the Statute of the OJSC “Lvivkartonoplast”, they elected new membership of supervisory council and revision committee of the company, they elected the head of the board of directors. Company’s specialization did not change.
OJSC “Lvivkartonoplast” today is modern company, located on separate enclosed yard with hard asphalt coverage. Buildings of the manufacturing workshops are in satisfactory technical state, they are regularly technically observed and there are conducted current repairs. Company is situated next to the main city street – B.Khmelnytskoho Str. And it has the approach train line. Company is supplied with necessary technological steam, which is produced at its own modern boiler-house. Equipment includes two main lines: essentially renewed with the change of the greater part of knots and aggregates line for paperboard production and new production line for cellulose base for sanitaryware products with high level of automation of process managing. Besides, at the present time the company owns such machines: for cutting bobbins, shell winding for paperboard production, cutting along machine (ĻŠŃ), as well as machines for rewinding of the base on the reel of toilet paper. During 2004–2007 our company, in its every day economic activity, was concentrated upon three strategic direction:
- rhythmic work with constant improvement and modernizations of paperboard production;
- expanding of the processing of half-finished paperboard (base, bobbins, sheets) into the paperboard shell, and in perspective into the paperboard corner;
- conclusion to the project power of the technologic equipment for production of paper os sanitary destination.
Main types of the products – paperboard (base, bobbins, sheets), paperboard products (shells, corner), cellulose base, toilet paper, towels. Ready products (paperboard or cellulose base) are received at the processing of the waste paper or cellulose by the way of milling, cleaning and pouring into the net tables with further drying onto the cylinders. Final product (toilet paper, towel, shell, paperboard sheet, bobbins) we receive at the further processing of half-finished product – base of or paperboard on the winding-cutting machines.
Taking into account the development tendencies of the paperboard market, company’s shareholders together with the plant managers, there was made strategic decision about transition to the production of final product – paperboard shell and accompanying paperboard bobbins for shells. It will give the opportunity to use production machines for paperboard production at maximum power; by the production of boxing paperboard to 1200 – 1500 tons monthly we will be able to avoid seasonal stands. There is in the company’s plans in 2008 to buy one more shell winding machine and reach planned production of the paperboard processing up to 350 tons monthly, depending on the type of final product (shell wall thickness). Paperboard shell – is the good of industrial destination and demand among the manufacturers of a range of industries of Ukraine for it irrepressibly increases. At the present time volumes of the orders exceed the production possibilities. As for the second direction of our activity, – production of paper sanitary goods, there was made strategic decision to refuse from the production of wastepaper base and to transfer completely in 2007 to the production of cellulose base. This made it possible for OJSC “Lvivkartonoplast” to become the second manufacturer ofcellulose base in the market of Ukraine and fill 30 percents of this market segment. Equipment of the technological line of Spanish firm «Copasa» makes it possible to produce up to 640 tons of thin cellulose base. At the further processing of the base into toilet paper or other paper products, we can essentially increase profitability of the production up to 35-40 percents. Now the company produces goods under its own registered trade mark “ĄÕ”. Products quality is so high that such famous brand as “Nizhnyi Dotyk” (LLC “Factory of Sanitaryware Products), which do not produce the base, but it is only engaged in its processing, is the buyer of OJSC “Lvivkartonoplast”. In the company’s nearest plans in current (2008) year to enter planned stable productivity of the machines 600-640 tons of cellulose base monthly and to increase the production of ready products of sanitaryware goods.
